China-Laos Environmental Protection Planning Project Technical Assistance Launched

The China-Laos Environmental Protection Planning Project Technical Assistance was officially launched on September 5 in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The project focuses on integrated planning for water and air environment management, aiming to enhance Laos’ ecological and environmental protection capacity and to extend the benefits of ecological public goods to more people in both China and Laos.

At the launch ceremony, Sena Kun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Laos, stated that in recent years, China has achieved remarkable results in ecological and environmental governance, providing valuable experience and important examples for Laos to promote green and sustainable development. Focusing on environmental protection planning, this technical assistance project offers a good opportunity for Laos to improve its environmental management level. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Laos will provide comprehensive support for the project's implementation, ensuring the cooperation is successfully completed according to plan.

Li Xizhen, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, said that this assistance project represents the latest achievement in building the China-Laos community with a shared future in the field of environmental protection. China is willing to work with Laos to continue deepening cooperation in areas such as green infrastructure, new energy, and climate change response, jointly exploring new approaches where economic development and environmental protection complement each other.

Li Xia, Deputy Director of the Center for International Cooperation and Exchange of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment / Lancang-Mekong Environmental Cooperation Center, representing the project implementing agency, stated that the expert team will enhance coordination with the Laotian side in information sharing, personnel exchanges, and collaboration, continuously enriching the content and forms of capacity building to ensure that the project’s outcomes truly benefit the Laotian people.

The China-Laos Environmental Protection Planning Project Technical Assistance is one of China’s "Eight Major Aid-to-Laos Projects." According to introductions, over the next three years, through national technical assistance, the project will assist Laos in developing comprehensive water environment management plans and plans for establishing air pollution prevention systems, implement water environment management and air monitoring demonstrations, and carry out capacity building for 2,600 personnel in the environmental sector.
