China Provides Mushroom Grass Technology Assistance to Zimbabwe
On April 14, the Chinese Mushroom Grass Technology Assistance Project Team in Zimbabwe announced that China is providing mushroom grass technology assistance to Zimbabwe for the first time, aiming to promote the development of the country's agriculture and animal husbandry.
On the same day, the first phase of the technical training course was held at an agricultural college in Mashonaland West Province, with more than 50 participants including grassroots agricultural officials, technicians, and farmers from Zimbabwe attending the training.
According to Rao Huohuo, head of the project team, the assistance project will be implemented from 2025 and will last for three years. It aims to promote the development of Zimbabwe's agriculture and animal husbandry and increase farmers' income and reduce poverty through the promotion of mushroom grass cultivation technology and the development of mushroom grass processing and utilization.
"We will train Zimbabwean farmers to use mushroom grass as a substrate for mushroom cultivation, livestock feed, and crop fertilizer, and to use it for ecological management," said Rao Huohuo.
Zimbabwean farmer Maswengo said, "Chinese experts told us that mushroom grass is highly drought-resistant and an excellent natural feed. I am ready to start planting it after receiving the training."
It is understood that the project team will conduct 30 training sessions over the next three years to help more farmers improve their cultivation skills.
