At the China-ASEAN Media and Think Tank High-Level Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 11, Xinhua News Agency National High-End Think Tank released the think tank report titled "RCEP and the Maritime Silk Road Vision: New Space for China-ASEAN Cooperation".
The report consists of three chapters. By using vivid and detailed cases and data, it comprehensively reviews the fruitful achievements made by China and ASEAN under the two frameworks of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It conducts an in-depth analysis of the cooperation opportunities for both sides in regional economic integration and puts forward a future outlook for building a closer China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future.
The report holds that China and ASEAN have promoted the coordinated development of the Maritime Silk Road and RCEP, exploring a more equitable, mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation model that is different from traditional trade and investment frameworks. This model has effectively enhanced regional mutual trust, raised regional international influence, strengthened the resilience of regional industrial and supply chain integration, and promoted the improvement of the global economic governance system.
Against the backdrop of slowing global economic recovery and accumulating risk factors, the report points out that China-ASEAN cooperation can not only promote regional economic and social development, but also integrate a broader market, larger production capacity and more extensive fields. It will inject more stability and new momentum into the world economy and make new contributions to building inclusive economic globalization.
The report clarifies that China and ASEAN can further seize historical opportunities, deepen strategic alignment, follow the general trend, eliminate distractions, share opportunities and create prosperity together. They should implement the comprehensive strategic partnership in practice, join hands to build a closer China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future, and create a better tomorrow for the Asia-Pacific region.
With the theme of "Gathering New Momentum for China-ASEAN Cooperation", the forum was co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and Bernama (Malaysian National News Agency). Approximately 260 representatives from over 160 media outlets, think tanks, government departments and enterprises in China and ASEAN countries attended the event.
